I've always thought Lair of the Minotaur was kind of like America's answer to Viking Metal. They're both just slowed down, more melodic versions of their constituent genres and they're both folk and myth based (even though they don't sing about American history at all) lyrically. But the key difference being that viking metal tries to be epic at least most of the time and is closely tied to black metal, where LOTM is not epic at all, but is closely tied to traditional thrash, but also packs the slower, bass heavy, dirty sound like any NOLA sludge band. I could be waaayyy off on this, but that's my interpretation anyway.
