The Iceburn Collective - Meditavolutions

Photobucket

From: USA
Year: 1996
Genre: Avante-Garde

The Iceburn Collective began as a “post-hardcore” band formed in 1991 known simply as Iceburn. Although some of the musical pieces were already in place on their first album, by the time this recording came to fruition they had evolved into an entirely different beast, seamlessly blending elements of Post-Hardcore/Metal/Jazz/Classical and Progressive Rock into a very unique whole. The music ebbs and flows between heavy groove and almost ethereal meditations on silence and sound. It’s best listened to continuously from beginning to end as a 70 minute-plus musical palindrome. The main focus of the band was the guitar playing of composer Gentry Densley, who later went on to form Eagle Twin and Ascend, which sounds like a cross between Sonny Sharrock and Tony Iommi.

Baring Teeth - Atrophy Demo

Photobucket

From: U.S.
Year: 2011
Genre: Technical Death Metal, Grindcore, Avante Garde

Here's a really cool and newly signed band on Willowtip, playing a weird mesh of Gorguts style tech death and grindcore. This is only the demo version of their new album, but as soon as I find the real thing I'll put it up as well.

Psudoku - Space Grind

Photobucket

From: Norway
Year: 2011
Genre: Grindcore

Here's the newest project by that crazy bastard from Parlamentarisk Sodomi. He describes it as "MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA meets ORIGIN and DISCORDANCE AXIS," but in my humble opinion it sounds more like a weirder variant of Parlamentarisk. Either way, it's pretty good and has a bit of a mathcore vibe to it as well.

Portal - Swarth

Photobucket

From: Australia
Year: 2009
Genre: Death Metal, Avante Garde, Experimental

There's a lot to love about this band, the dual 8 string guitars, the lead singer in the fucked-up pope outfit, the churning noisy staccato picked chords that make up a bulk of their songwriting, take your pick-->>

Hunab Ku - The Rewiring Process EP

Photobucket
From: U.S.
Year: 2010
Genre: Experimental, Technical Death Metal, Progressive, Avante Garde

I've been following this band for a while and was extremely excited when they added Luke Jaeger(Sleep Terror) to their ranks on guitar. I believe the rewiring process is a perfect title for their progression from their first release, so prepare for some crazy shit-->>

Shining - Grindstone

Crazy progressive jazz metal from Norway, but with much more structure than Painkiller and Naked City. Its definitely more akin to Panzerballet.

More experimental jazzcore with John Zorn at the helm. If you like the painkiller post you'll enjoy this as well.

Grindcore influenced Avante-Garde Jazz Fusion featuring Mick Harris(yes that Mick Harris) on the drums and vocals. If you like weird, then this is your album.
