Anhedonist - Netherwards

Photobucket

From: USA
Year: 2012
Genre: Death Doom

Just in time for the warmth and beauty of summer comes an album of stark sadness and tortured despair. While never quite succumbing to the overwhelming futility of existence, Anhedonist also raise a battle cry of hatred and fury. To quote Dylan Thomas, they "rage, rage against the dying of the light." Death doom is rarely this emotive and beautiful while still remaining aggressive and savage. Although the entirety of the album is consistent in its overwhelming vision and atmosphere, each of the four songs has it's own identity and is completely memorable. Funeral and Traditional Doom influences are very strong on the two longer tracks and some slightly blackened elements appear in the riffs and vocals periodically throughout the album. For fans of Disma, Pallbearer and Mournful Congregation. Can't recommend this enough. Buy a copy from Dark Descent.
