Besides playing drums for Pharoah, one of the best American power metal bands of the last 20 years, Chris Black plays bass and sings in High Spirits and Superchrist and has put in time with Nachtmystium. With Dawnbringer, by playing all the instruments as well as composing and singing all the songs himself, he has created music that incorporates elements of all these bands into a pure heavy metal machine that is as original as they come. Subtlety isn’t something you usual associate with metal bands. In fact being over the top in every way could almost be the blueprint for a traditional metal band. But Black is a master at subtlety. From his understated yet forceful vocal performances to his classy yet powerful solos and riffs to his laid back yet driving drum playing to his general ability to craft songs that subtly blend elements of NWOBHM, Classic Rock, Black Metal and Power Metal into something at once original yet completely recognizable and memorable, these songs take their time to get under your skin and once there latch on to your subconscious and refuse to let go. If you're a fan of Heavy Metal there’s simply no way you can dislike this.
