Charon are a blackened death metal band from Germany with a heavy thrash influence that sound like they were vomited from the pits of hell to make slaves of the meek, lay waste to the earth, then inherit it for themselves. The album begins with the sound of rattling chains and tortured screams as if to illustrate this image. Every song flows into one another which gives the album a sense of continuity and coherence so that, even though the music is complex, dynamic and packed with memorable riffs, interesting stylistic/time changes, apocalyptic atmosphere and vocals that growl, shriek, whisper, scream, chant and generally attempt to scare the shit out of you, it never loses its ability to keep you engaged and begging for mercy. The production is perfectly appropriate. When they decide to turn on the thrash, the riffs are slightly crisp, and when they decide to blast or slow things down, the riffs are slightly bestial and dirty. Trust me, if you’re a fan of bestial war metal, suffocating death metal, blackened thrash or even straight up black metal, you’ll most likely love this.
